Advanced detectors and data analysis
Lectures: 30 hours
Problem classes: 15 hours
Introduction, overview of detectors, interaction of
particles and photons with matter
Detector systems in nuclear and elementary particle
physics: magnetic spectrometers,
detectors for the e+e colliders (Belle, BaBar, Belle II), detectors for the LHC
(ATLAS), detectors for experiments with a fixed target and forward
spectrometers (HERA- B, LHCb), experiments deep underground (search for dark
matter and neutrino experiments), experiments in elementary particle
astrophysics.
Data analysis and processing: From raw data to reaction analysis; using advanced
statistical tools and machine learning
Conditions: attending lectures, written exam, oral exam
