Open Position for a Young Researcher: Analysis of the LHCb spectrometer data and heavy flavour physics

Feb. 24, 2026 News

In the LHCb group at the Department for Experimental Particle Physics (F9), a position for a young researcher will be available starting October 1, 2026, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Rok Pestotnik. The training topic is Analysis of Data from the LHCb Spectrometer and Heavy Flavour Physics. More information about the topic: https://mr.ijs.si/en/prof-dr-rok-pestotnik-2/.

Researchers at the Department for Experimental Particle Physics (F9) study the fundamental building blocks of matter and their interactions at the highest energies. We participate in large international experiments (LHCb, ATLAS, Belle II), analyse data from collisions of elementary particles, develop and upgrade particle detectors, and search for signs of new physics beyond the Standard Model.

We are looking for a curious individual who wants to deepen their knowledge, enjoys developing their own ideas, and is skilled in programming. By mid-September, the candidate must complete a second-cycle (master ’s-level) university study program, with an average grade of at least 8 (the grades for the bachelor’s and master’s theses are also taken into account).

The young researcher will conduct research in particle physics. They will be employed at the "Jožef Stefan" Institute. They will attend the doctoral study program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana, where, upon successful defence of the dissertation, they will obtain the title of Doctor of Science.

More information about the public call for candidates for young researchers at IJS is available at https://mr.ijs.si/. The application deadline will be announced later.
