Researchers’ night 2023

Oct. 5, 2023 News

On Friday, September 29, 2023, the sixth European Researchers’ night took place at the Jožef Stefan Institute as part of the “Noč ima svojo moč" project. Colleagues from Experimental Particle Physics Department - F9 prepared a workshop entitled How can we see elementary particles, in which we presented the smallest building blocks of Nature - where and how can we study them. We presented visitors with a simple tabletop detector - a cloud chamber, where traces of ionising radiation from alpha particles, beta particles and muons were visible. Virtual reality attracted the most interest, where the participants could walk through the particle detector - Belle II, which is actually located in Japan, and observe how different particles travel and interact with different parts of the detector. According to the visitors' reactions, the project's goal of having a wide range of people get to know the researchers and our work was achieved.
