I am active in developing new methods in particle physics data simulation and analysis. I participated in several new physics searches at the LHC as well as developments of Monte Carlo tools and experimental techniques, which were also used in the Higgs boson discovery in 2012. I became involved in the field of Machine Learning in physics already during my doctorate, using neural networks for the reconstruction of W bosons. During my term as the ATLAS Computing Coordinator, coordinating all software and computing activities of the ATLAS collaboration, I have set up a working group to investigate the potential of using ML techniques and HPC facilities for ATLAS. Lately I am focusing my interest in Machine Learning applications in various aspects of experimental particle physics, from event categorization, background modeling and object reconstruction to fast simulation techniques of LHC processes.  Invited speaker at many international events, h-index higher than 100, more than 1000 papers published in the highest ranked international journals with more than 10000 citations.
